Alex vs. Ribbon

July 30, 2026
Alex vs. Ribbon

Ribbon is an AI interviewer for voice and phone screening with full calendar coordination. It's a fast way to get phone screens scored at volume. Alex runs the whole process, with video and phone interviews. It's built for teams that need global interviews, ID verification on top of behavioral signals, and compliance ensured. Ribbon fits a phone-first funnel you want live this week. Alex fits a wider range of hiring that stands up under scrutiny. Here's the side-by-side.

What each tool actually is

Ribbon is an AI interviewer. It runs the screening conversation over voice and phone, scores it, applies behavioral integrity signals, coordinates times against calendars, and integrates with 60+ ATS platforms.

Alex is an AI recruiter, a wider remit than interviewing. It runs the conversation over video, phone or WhatsApp — SMS handles invitations, reminders and rescheduling — scores it, verifies integrity and identity, coordinates scheduling with time-zone detection and blackout windows, and syncs results to 100+ ATS platforms.

Where Ribbon fits

Integration breadth. 60+ ATS platforms is a noteworthy library.

A narrow product, shipped fast. Voice and phone only means nothing else to configure.

If phone screening live this week is your only constraint, Ribbon can do the job.

Where Alex pulls ahead

Channels a candidate will answer

Ribbon interviews over voice and phone, which assumes every candidate answers an unknown number. Shift workers mid-shift don't. Candidates screening out spam calls don't. Anyone abroad facing international minutes doesn't.

Alex adds video for candidates who expect it, and WhatsApp for candidates for whom WhatsApp is the phone: calls and messages both, already installed, running on wifi rather than billable international minutes. SMS then carries the layer around the interview — invite, reminder, reschedule — which is where volume funnels leak before anyone talks.

Behavioral signals without an identity check

Ribbon can flag a conversation that looks irregular. It can't confirm the voice belongs to the applicant.

Alex splits that into three layers. Cheat detection scores video, audio and transcript for external assistance, AI-generated answers, multiple speakers, eye and head movement and voice-changing tools, against a threshold you choose per role from 0 to 100, with the reasons broken out by analysis type in the candidate report. Fraud verification produces an independent identity risk score — Low, Medium or High — from disposable email domains, VOIP numbers, VPN use, CNAM mismatches and résumé-to-profile inconsistencies. ID verification adds a document-and-selfie check, enabled per job.

Voice-first screening makes this gap sharper, not softer. No face, no document, no screen: the identity question has to be answered around the call, because it can't be answered inside it. For remote or licensed roles, that layer matters.

Type II, and certification instead of silence

Ribbon's SOC 2 is Type I, a point-in-time assessment of control design. Alex's is Type II, which tests whether those controls actually operated over a period of time. Most enterprise security reviews want the second, and the gap between them is months of audit work and commitment to security.

What to test in a pilot

Run both tools on the same requisition and compare:

  • Completion rate on your hardest-to-reach role, not your easiest
  • Days from application to a scored, reviewable interview
  • Share of interviews flagged for integrity review, and the false-positive rate
  • Whether transcripts and scores reach your ATS without a CSV
  • Which SOC 2 report type each vendor can produce today

The verdict

Choose Ribbon if your hiring is phone-based, your ATS is on their list, and speed to launch outranks everything. Choose Alex if you want the whole process taken care of, candidates need WhatsApp or video to reach you, or if identity verification and SOC 2 Type II are requirements.

See Alex on your own roles

Bring the role you can't fill and the candidates you can't reach. In 30 minutes we'll run Alex on that requisition, show you identity and cheat-detection signals resolving on a live interview, and connect to your ATS so you can watch scored results land where your team already works.
