Alex vs. Phenom
Phenom is a talent-experience platform and it's genuinely good at the thing it's named for: personalised career sites, candidate CRM, internal mobility, the whole front end of how people meet your employer brand. Alex is an AI recruiter: it conducts interviews, scores them, verifies the candidates, and writes the results back to your ATS. If candidates can't find or navigate your jobs, Phenom. If nobody can get through the interviews, Alex. Here's the side-by-side.
What each tool actually is
Phenom is a talent-experience platform. Career site, candidate relationship management, job matching and internal-mobility experiences, sitting natively on top of your ATS and HRIS. Its published screening capability is voice screening.
Alex is an AI recruiter. It runs interviews over video, phone or WhatsApp — with SMS handling invitations, reminders and scheduling — then scores the transcript, verifies integrity and identity, handles calendar coordination, and syncs results into your ATS.
A large employer could reasonably run Phenom as its experience layer and Alex as its interview engine.

Where Phenom fits
Candidate experience. Career sites, nurture campaigns and job matching are mature in Phenom — they fix a pre-application problem, not the interview backlog behind it.
Internal mobility. Employee-side matching and career pathing run on HRIS data, a different dataset from the one a screening interview produces.
If unifying your career site, CRM and internal mobility is your only constraint, Phenom will do the job.
Where Alex pulls ahead
Integrity signals on the interview itself
Alex provides cheat detection. It checks the video, audio, and transcript for external assistance, AI-generated answers, multiple speakers, eye and head tracking, and voice-changing tools. Fraud verification produces a separate identity risk score from email, phone, IP and digital-footprint signals — disposable addresses, VOIP numbers, VPNs, résumé-to-profile inconsistencies — and a Stripe-backed document-and-selfie ID check can be switched on per job.
This matters more each quarter, because candidate-side AI assistance is improving faster than unscored review can absorb. An unverified screen at volume passes polished answers straight to a hiring manager's calendar.
Multiple channels
Alex conducts interviews over video, phone, and WhatsApp, with SMS carrying the invitations and reminders that get people to show up. WhatsApp is the one that changes international hiring: calls and messages in the app candidates already have, over wifi instead of billable minutes. Alex also detects time zone from area code and respects blackout windows, so a call never lands at 6am local time. The metric that matters is completion rate on your hardest role, and channel choice moves it more than anything else in the stack.
What to test in a pilot
Run the same requisition through both and compare:
- Completion rate on your hardest-to-reach role, not your easiest
- Days from application to a scored, reviewable interview
- What integrity or fraud signals you can see on a completed interview, and who reviews them
- Whether scores and transcripts write back to your ATS without a CSV
The verdict
Choose Phenom if your priority is the experience layer and voice screening inside that platform is enough. Choose Alex if the interview flow itself is the bottleneck and you need reach, integrity scoring and same-day results in your ATS.
